The National Basketball Association and Wilson Sporting Goods Co. recently announced a global partnership that will make Wilson the official game ball of the NBA. The deal will be effective when the 2021 - 22 NBA season kicks off.
Wilson has produced basketballs used at the high school and collegiate levels for years. The new official game basketball will be used in the NBA, WNBA, the G-League, and its other affiliated leagues around the world.
The new ball will be composed of the same materials and specifications as the current Spalding Game ball to retain a level of familiarity. The National Basketball Players’ Association (NBPA) will be forming an advisory board to offer insight throughout the process to avoid the level of backlash the last time the NBA made a change to the game ball in 2007.
The NBA’s announcement officially ends their 37-year partnership with Spalding.
